Prof. Michael Bourke

In 1986, Michael graduated from University of Queensland, and in 1993, he obtained fellowship of the Australian College of Physicians.  He then completed an advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship in Toronto, Canada in 1994. 

Michael is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney.  His clinical work and research spans many facets of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy, with a focus on endoscopic resection for advanced mucosal neoplasia and early cancer at all sites in the gastrointestinal tract.

He has developed and pioneered many novel techniques and methods for the diagnosis and treatment of colonic polyps, Barrett's oesophogas and early cancer of the oesophagus, stomach and colon.  He has authored more than 200 peer reviewed research papers, editorials and book chapters.  Michael is co-editor of Endoscopy, the official journal of the European Society of GI endoscopy.

Michael is also the convenor of the Sydney International Endoscopy Symposium, Australia's second largest gastroenterology event.
