Dr. John Napoli MMBS FRACP PhD

Dr John Napoli commenced his gastroenterology practice in 1994 at Pennant Hills whilst completing his PhD at the AW Morrow Gastroenterology and Liver centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney. He subsequently was appointed as a VMO gastroenterologist at Ryde Hospital and the Sydney Adventist Hospital and Senior Clinical Lecturer of the University of Sydney. Dr Napoli is actively involved in medical student and junior medical officer training. He has been the Director of Clinical Training at Ryde Hospital and Sub-Dean for the Northern Clinical School.
Dr Napoli’s work covers all areas of general gastroenterology with particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease and bowel cancer screening and prevention. He has over 20 years of experience in these areas and participates in the “Sydney IBD” workshops and meetings. Dr Napoli is an advocate for bowel cancer awareness, prevention and screening. He has successfully run an “Open Access” scheme for many years for suitable patients to enable prompt endoscopic investigation without the delay and cost of a prior formal consultation.
He keeps waiting lists to a minimum and is happy to prioritise patients who require prompt attention. In addition, Dr Napoli’s practice includes many patients with common problems such as oesophageal reflux and irritable bowel syndrome. He adopts a holistic approach to the management of his patients including the use of lifestyle and non-pharmacologic methods for treatment.
Dr Napoli is passionate about providing high quality, accessible gastroenterological care to the community. In 2007, he took ownership of Pennant Hills Day Endoscopy Centre and subsequently this has evolved into a new state-of-the-art facility, Pennant Hills Day Surgery, which opened in November 2015. Dr Napoli is currently the Chair of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Day Hospital Association and in 2016, represented Australia at the International Association of Ambulatory Surgery in Paris.
